Royal Castle in Warsaw, located at Zamkowy Square 4, is one of the most important monuments of baroque-classicist architecture in Poland. Its history was not peaceful – the castle was repeatedly destroyed and looted. The greatest destruction occurred in 1939 and 1944, when the Royal Castle was completely destroyed by the Germans during World War II. In 1980, together with the Old Town, it was included on the UNESCO World Heritage List, and in 1994 it obtained the status of a historical monument.
