museum description

Museum of King Jan III’s Palace in Wilanów

The Wilanów Palace, built between 1681 and 1696 for King Jan III Sobieski and Maria Casimir, is a unique example of baroque architecture in Warsaw. Augustyn Wincenty Locci’s design combined elements of European art with the tradition of the Polish court. In the years 1723-1729, side wings were added, which expanded the palace complex.

Currently, the palace is the seat of the Museum of King Jan III’s Palace in Wilanów and the Poster Museum. It has been recognized as a historical monument and serves as a cultural center, organizing concerts, exhibitions, workshops and meetings. The museum offers visitors a variety of permanent and temporary exhibitions that present a rich collection of works of art, furniture, porcelain and memorabilia related to John III Sobieski and other important historical figures.

The museum also organizes special educational programs for children and teenagers, which makes it an attractive place for families. Visitors can use audio guides available in several languages, which makes it easier to discover the history of the palace and its inhabitants.

In addition to the palace, there is a charming garden nearby that also attracts tourists and nature lovers. Wilanów Gardens, designed in the Baroque style, offer beautiful avenues, fountains, ponds and rich vegetation.
